MONTENEGRO
The Republic of Montenegro (is a European name for the country but Slavic people call it Cherno Gora) is situated on a Balkan peninsula in Southern Europe. On the South East it has a border with Albania, Western neighbors are Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Italy is on the South across the Adriatic Sea.
Capital: Podgorica (159 000 inhabitants).
Major cities: Podgorica, Citiniye, Budva, Becici, Sveti-Stefan, Milocer, Petrovac, Ulcin, Tivat, Herceg Novi, Igalo.
The total area:13 812 square kilometres.
Official language: the state language is the iekavskii dialect of the Serbian language.

Religion: the main religions are Orthodoxy, Catholicism and Islam.

Time zone: (GMT +1:00).
Visas: visa free for the Russians, Belorussians, Ukrainians for one month. If you go to Montenegro by bus or by car you must receive the transit visa in Herzegovina and Serbia. Ukrainians must receive Serbian visa if they go by bus.
Sights: the largest beach is «Velika plyazhu» in Ulcin - 13 km. Sandy Beaches are Ulcin Riv’era, Budvanskay Riv’era. Pebbles beaches - Zanic, Nivic, Bar, Sutomorje. Artificial beaches - Tivat, Herceg Novi. Transparent of sea water is 30-55 metres in deeper.
The Tara. The length of canyon the Tara is 100 km. The depth changes all the time but "Curevac" is the deepest part of canyon of 1300 metres high. There are not paths, villages and others here. The canyon is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. River, canyon, nature and plants are exciting for everybody.
Kotor. Like a person suffering form thirst holds drops of water in his hands, mountains and hills guard the Gulf of Bokokotor - the biggest and the most beautiful fiord of the Mediterranean. The Gulf was a refuge for seamen. Here they hid their ships from gales and storms of the open sea. There is one of the most famous cities in the Mediterranean – the city of Kotor. Its Old Town has been included in the list of heritage by UNESCO.
Through the entire city the buildings are criss-crossed with narrow streets and squares. One of these squares contains the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (Sveti Tripun), a monument of Roman culture and one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. The Church of Saint Luke (Sveti Luka) from the 13th century, Church of Saint Ana (Sveta Ana) from the 12th century, Church of Saint Mary (Sveta Marija) from the 13th century, the Prince’s Palace from the 17th century and the Napoleon’s Theatre from the 19th century are all treasures that are part of the rich heritage of Kotor.
Monastery Ostrog. Monastery Ostrog, a miracle build by nature and human interactions, carved almost in its entirety in a vertical mountain cliff, is today the pearl of Montenegrin spiritualism that is annually visited by more then a hundred thousand pilgrims from around the world and of all religions. It was built in 17 centures. It is one of three most visited Christian destinations on the planet with its cave-like chapel and monastery complex that preserves the sacrilege of Saint Basil the Orthodox Saint of Miracles. All of Montenegrin spiritualism, belief and cultural treasures found their home high up in the Ostrog cliffs. This destination which will take your breath away will fill your soul with elevated feelings of love toward God.
Biogradska Gora. National park Biogradska Gora is located between the rivers Tara and Lim in the middle of mountain Bjelasica. Swift streams cut through the scenery of Biogradska Gora, and green pastures and clear lakes reflect thru the centennial forests. The thing that makes Biogradska Gora unique is the virgin forest. In the center of Biogradska virgin forest is Biogradsko Lake, the largest glacier lake in this National park. Biogradska Gora abounds in cultural and historic heritage consisting of secret monuments, national buildings and archeological locations. Summer pastures and villages, lining the territorial boarders of the virgin forest of mountain Bjelasica, contain numerous authentic buildings of traditional architecture.
Festivals and holidays.
Belgrads’ Festivals - FEST, International theatre and jazz festivals, Novuna-Sad (Festival of music Exit), Festival of children’s poem by Giovanna Zmadja. One of the most important holiday in Chernogoria is Day of State (27 April).
Climate: mediterranean. The average temperature in Montenegro between 17 °C and 27 °C. Swimming season is from April to November.
Shops: A lot of shops open from 08.00 till 22.00, lunch 13.00 - 17.00. Groceries work without lunch.
Cuisine: You can taste here many different dishes from pork, mutton and vegetables and fish (a lot of kinds). All dishes prepare with olive oil. National beverages are "lozovaca" (made of grape), "sljivovica" or "sljiva" (made of plum), "krusku" (made of pear). Montenegro is characteristic by two kinds of grapevine: Vranac and Krstac. Mountains in Chernogoria are the best place for national food – hot baked milk, cheese, skarup, cream, hot kajmak and others dishes.
Transport: there are two international airports - Podgorica and Tivat (sometimes it is used local airport – in Dubrovnik, but it is difficult to get to resorts from there). The railway goes from port Bar through Podgorica to Belgrade (Serbia). There's also a railway line Podgorica - Nikshich. Main highways: Adriatic Highway starts in the outskirts of the city of Triest (Italy), goes along the seaside in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and finishes in the very southern Montenegro city Ulcin. Ferry line from port Bar to Bari (Ital) works all-year-round. Flying out from Chernogoria you must pay airport’s tax - 15 Euro.
You can get to Chernogoria by train through Belgrad and then in Novunu-Sad and Suboticu. Ukrainians can travel by car with driver’s license.
