About Ukraine
Ukraine covers about 603,700sq km being larger than any country in Western Europe. From east to west Ukraine stretches for more than 1,300 km and from north to south for almost 900 km. It borders on Byelorussia and Russia in the north and in the east. In the south it is bounded by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. In the west Ukraine it is bounded by Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland.
The capital: Kyiv. It has a large history.
Population: 51 mln.people. (77,8% are the Ukrainians, 17,3% are the Russians, 4,9% are other nationalities).
Political system: according to the forms of the government Ukraine combines the elements of presidential and parliamentary republic.The head of the Ukrainian State is the President, who is elected directly by the voters for a term of 5 years with no more than two full terms.. At this moment the President of Ukraine is Yushchenko Victor.
Administratively Ukraine is divided into 24 regions (oblast), 2 cities of central submission and the Crimean Republic, which has a special status as a constituent part of Ukraine.
Official language: Ukrainian. The unfettered development, use and protection of Russia and other languages of national minorities in Ukraine are guaranteed by the constitution. Youth (most of them) speaks English.
Religion: Christians.
Local currency: grivna (UAH).
Climate: It is mild and warm, moderate and continental, in the Crimea it is subtropical.
